Unlearn What You Already Know

Flowerosity sketch #15

…for the may possibilities to take place.

As I have explored and played on my Seed to Blossom journey, I have found that the  most challenging part is to unlearn what I already know, or think I know, about any flower or plant. You may say, hey what about building upon what I already know, that’s constructive? From an intellectual perspective, it is constructive! What unlearning does is it opens the door to the many possibilities into the unknown, allowing the creative juices to flow.

As I keep a flower drawing sketchbook I am aware of which flowers are intuited from my past, present and future. Flowers evolve just as we do and my intentions when drawing are to integrate past familiarity with future possibilities into the present. For now they are sketches, their stories yet to be told through a painting, sculpture, poem, dance or other art form.
